From the Desk of NAAQSE USA President—leadership tenure 2016-2018.
My Honorable ones - BOD Members, BOD members Emeritus, BOD Chair and President Emeritus, Chapter Presidents, Patrons and all Queenites (my seniors, my graduating year colleagues and my juniors), I delightfully welcome you to our first edition of the NAAQSE Newsletter.
I am truly honored and humbled by your vote to entrust me with the current leadership of our Dear NAAQSE USA for the 2016 ~ 2020 term. I am very appreciative of your vote of confidence, belief, and the trust that I am capable of managing the rigorous and daunting demands that are imminent with this office and position.
I can only promise you that I will strive not to disappoint you, and I intend to invest more than the maximum efforts necessary to execute my office’s functions to the best of my ability.
If anyone had asked me upon my graduation back in 1982 from Queen’s School Enugu if I thought that I would be president of the Alumnae Association, I would have instantly shuddered at such thoughts, and dismissed such possibility. If you would have asked me that same question two years ago, I would have answered that “It is worth considering and will be an honor to serve in such capacity”. This is because that’s what each of us that are truly Queenites at heart should not shy away from. Being ready and willing to accept to serve in top leadership mantle to help steer what we do well – working together as Queenites. We must all try to embrace the seemingly impossible and turn them into inevitable.
I have worked with most of you from various chapters in the execution of most of our past NAAQSE sponsored projects and collaborations for the benefit of our alma mater. I am also certain that I’ll be working with some of you again as well as other new faces for after this convention for future projects. So, I look forward to your continued partnership and support as always. We are in this business of helping our alma mater together, and our success will depend on our ensuring that we collectively have seamless partnership and support for one another. We are who we are---Queenites!
Since my election into the office of the Presidency, I have reached out to many of you either for consultation, to seek your solo assistance (or ask you to work in a committee) toward helping me to execute some charitable tasks for our association or for our alma mater. I am happy, appreciative, and grateful for the positive responses from you which is the typical characteristic of all Queenites.
Now, let me use this opportunity to inform you that God did put together great and fearless women as Board and executives and I am glad to call every one of them my sister.
I wish to extend a hearty thank you to all of you that have accepted to work towards the progress of out Alma mater.
On behalf of all my wonderful and hard-working executives, I wish to give you all, a summary run-down of our achievements:
Let me mention first that we completed a very big project---The renovation of Kitchen and Refectory, curbed the erosion with over $30,000.
On our first week in office, we created a Google group account to help to effectively and promptly disseminate information as they become available to every registered Queenite since timely dispatch of information has been challenging in the past.
Additionally:
1. We have created different committees to enable every Queenite discretionally join one of their choosing to invest their talent toward making a difference in the affairs of our alma mater. Most of these committees are already working on their respective projects. Kudos to Resolution, Welfare, Constitution, Education, Health team members. You women are amazing and I cannot ask for a better team.
2. We donated an amount of Three hundred and Seventy thousand Naira to our Nigeria Sisters towards a good cause with the voluntary donation of great Queenites. This made it possible for us to provide snacks during the scholarship presentation.
3. We have sent out letters to about 120 private schools looking for a possibility of their willingness to accept to adopt and support Queen’s School Enugu.
4. We awarded scholarships last year to five deserving students and provided refreshments to a total of 3,500 students during the occasion of the scholarship award event at Queen’s School. This year, we plan to increase the number of students and also bless some teachers. This was featured by NTA!
5. We created a very friendly and professional website to an up to date, intercative medium.
6. We increased our public relations and social media presence via facebook, whatsapp and other sites.
7. We initiated first ever spiritual nurturing growth through regular prayer line for Queenites only to encourage and lift each other up.
8. Our super duper welfare team has been able and continue to reach out to members on issues of health, natural disaster, condolences and other life challenges.
9. We were able to make a big payout to one of our bereaved sister of over five thousand dollars through the contribution of many.
10. We hired a registered CPA on monthly pay to make sure that we are very compliant with IRS regulations
11. We just had a very successful use of event brite through our website
12. Donations can also be made via the website through either paypal or donor box.
13. We were able to foster relationships with all ages—Young and old. Many queenites are here this weekend for the first time and I hope they will continue to support.
14. We reached out to over 1,000 queenites all over the world through social media.
15. Finally, I will bring to your attention the August fundraising that kept us on our toes and yielded over 70,000 dollars towards the renovation of dormitories at our alma mater. This could not have been possible without the contribution and support of each one of you. This campaign remains ongoing till we reach our destination. GO QUEENITES!
16. We are currently working hard through our defined welfare committee to create an association that will enable us help the girls at home but at the same time, make sure that we are there for each other in good times and bad times.
So now given our vision and forward-looking, imagine where NAAQSE will be in 2020:
• More than 250 Alumnae Association members.
• An alumnae base with many more well-recognized names.
• Renovation of dilapidated dormitories.
• A First Generation Scholarship Fund supported by our Alumnae Association.
• Using one of the best recognized and most elegant award ceremonies – the Torch Awards as a source for generating money.
• Having Alumni members who are raging mad about expanding and supporting programs at QSE.
• Having Alumni members who remember their roots and keep giving back gifts to fund and sustain endowments for our alma mater.
• Having An Alumni Association who will definitely keep taking care of their members in good and hard times.
NAAQSE Association is an organization of 300 members worldwide. Our common shared background as graduates of Queen’s School Enugu connects all of us in a very special way.
Membership in the Alumnae Association begins from the local chapter base wherever the individual alumnae resides. The various local chapters are an integral part of the national association body (NAAQSE, and accommodates every graduate of Queen’s School. Membership offers many benefits which is determined and dispensed on the branch levels. However, if you are in state without a branch, you can become an AT-LARGE member.
I invite you to follow us on Facebook, and visit our website at www.naaqse.com and try and join our Alumnae Directory. Also, please join any local branch in your state of residence or get involved through one of our alumni chapters in a nearby town/state, and if possible help us to recruit other Queenites who we cannot reach (or have not reached out to). I encourage you to periodically send a note or suggestion to my email—[email protected] to let us know of any big or small changes in your life that you wish to update us about or things that might help us create better version of this movement that we have created.
I am excited about the future of our association and I am confident that with your help and continued commitment/involvement, we will accomplish more than we aim for.
